Our favorite dry fly of all time!
Fish just think this thing looks, well, "buggy".
Use size #12 for larger trout in lakes, but drop to a #16 for small streams. Or better yet, tie up #10 through #20, and "match the hatch" with the hatching insects you see on the water and in the air.
Bend down the barbs for easier release of small fish.
On still-waters, consider cutting off the bottom 1/3 of the hackle, so it sits lower in the water like the natural fly. Put more fly-floatant on the fly if you do this, however.
Good luck!

Catch and release tips
Let's keep plenty of fish for future generations - release fish that you don't really need to keep.

Fishing Coaches gameplan!
If you like fishing with no other anglers around, the best scenery Dale has ever seen, hooking trout every 3rd cast or so, and like the idea of seeing people snow skiing at your eye-level in late August (yes, it's alpine!), then this scenario is for you: www.FishingCoaches.org/TFxMtBakerStream.pdf

Top 5 salmon fishing tips
Here are our top 5 tips for fishing for salmon in rivers.
1. Go during the peak week of the year. The week of the traditional best fishing on that particular river for that particular species is often far and away the best time to fish it. Unlike resident fish, salmon will be migrating and only in the river for a very short time period.
2. Put scent on your lure. Blood Tuna Garlic is our favorite.
3. Use shrimp types of lures for species that feed on shrimp, such as Pink Salmon, Chum Salmon, and Sockeye Salmon. Bait fish imitations are ideal for Coho and Chinook Salmon.
4. For Pink Salmon there is one color to use on your lure. Let's just say we think we know why they call them "Pink" Salmon?
5. Use a boat if possible. On rivers that are big enough we've seen a boat reach areas faster and better. You'll hang up on the bottom less, too, since the angle of retrieve can be more favorable from a boat.

DON'T fish a place 98.9% of the time
On any one particular fishing scenario, our Fishing Calendar's "window-period" is usually only about 18 days per year. And on average the "Timing Details" on our gameplans are only satisfied around 12 days per year, on average. Also, for various reasons (darkness is often not recommended, bright sun is also not often recommended, etc.) the best catching that day often falls w/in roughly an 8 hour period.
Yep, that's 98.9% of the time we don't fish there! But because we have around 105 scenarios on our member's tailored Fishing Calendars, they have around 1260 fishing "days" per year from which to chose from (12 days times the 105 scenarios)!
Plus, when they add their own favorite fishing scenarios, they have plenty of great fishing to choose from. If members email us, we also have around 300 more fishing scenarios that are very productive, that we can tell them about. See more at catching rules.

Great trials scoring videos!
I'll bet a lot of us don't know all of these rules. Tell us which
rules that you didn't know (this might be fun.)
Knowing these rules should cut down on future disagreements, and
help observers to be more confident/accurate. A top-flight grizzled veteran
saying to an observer observing his first trial "no, I didn't get a five,
that's a clean!", can probably be pretty intimidating/confusing. As you
can see from the videos, it can get a little detailed/confusing.
