Trout season is here!

Here are 5 tips to help you catch more trout this year.

1. "Match the hatch". If you see trout swirling on the surface for insects, try to match the bugs that you see flying around the water.

2. Use a limber rod. When we use a stiff rod we seem to lose way more fish than when we use a soft, forgiving rod. A longer rod can also help in this regard.

3. Go with as light of line as you can. If you're using 10 pound test line and it never ever breaks on you, then go lighter until you get break-offs - then bump it up by 2 pounds test. Trout can see fishing line.

4. Correct speed is a must. For flatfish type lures try 1.1 knots. For spoons try about 1.9 knots. For most woolly-bugger patterns try 1.5 knots. Bring a good GPS device with you.

5. Catch and release - that way there are more fish for all of us.
